A Tweak Peek...

My weekend was spent tweaking a home on Lake Austin that some of you may recall from bedroom photos that I have shown in the past…

I have spent the last couple of years working with the owner on the interiors. It is a gorgeous home right on the lake with stunning views! Like a lot of home owners, they are thinking long term and therefore have decided to build a new home on the lake that is a single level so that they can gracefully “age-in-place”… Therefore, they are getting ready to put it on the market.

To get it ready to show, we did a little rearranging and tweaking. Here are some of the great room’s photos from various angles… of which you can see glimpses of some wonderful exterior views…

Not a bad way to spend a weekend tweak-en…

  3. Terri, just beautiful. I'm a Houstonian so I know where all this is. Wonderful accessories everywhere, especially the swans over the cabinets (are those the handcarved ones?). I don't think I could move. xx's Marsha

  4. Thank you Marsha. Yes, the swans are hand carved. Many of the accessories came from trips to Round Top, as did some of the furniture pieces.

    Thanks for stopping by.

  6. Thank you Karena. I also love to place art work very low... especially in more intimate areas. If I am doing a whole gallery wall, I will take it down as much as a 12-15" above the floor.

The design of that window bench is so beautiful! You brouhgt me on ideas with it!
Terri, all the wood we used for the construction of our outbuilding is oak. Here in Belgium we are truly oak lovers!

  8. Greet, thank you for your generous words.

I am guessing that the oak you have is closer to our white oak here... is it treated for outdoor use?

    Thanks for stopping by.

  10. Hi Terry. Love the French mattress look of the window seat (and the stripes)...and the pillows leaning against the niche. Very soothing, subtle tone on tone. Everything looks so serene! Trish

  11. Thank you Maryanne. I agree, rooms look their best when they have evolved over a period of time. We had eliminated a lot of the personal effects that are normally part of their everyday living to make it more suitable for showing on the sales market... so the photos look a lot less editorial than they normally would.

  12. Trish, thank you for stopping by. The window seat has been a favorite... I will have to get a close-up of the cushion to show the tufting detail. I had a tab button made from the fabric, which is just sewn into a square (no button form was used)... much like the very old mattresses were originally done.

  14. They won't want to sell after you get done tweakin! Seriously, a gorgeous home. Love the window seat. Everything looks so soft and restful.
I'm in the process of doing the same thing for clients. Empty nesters decided to sell after 26 years in their home. Much de-cluttering, neutralizing and tweaking too. Just depersonalizing -- kind of sad though. What a job!

  15. It would be hard for me to leave that home if it were mine, and I'm sure it will be for them as well... but did you see the steps?... not really aging in place friendly...

The depersonalizing process is very hard for home owners...

  16. It's an amazing but I appreciate the desire to downsize. I wonder, were you involved with the original design and the construction?

  17. Hi Terry, no I didn't work on the original structure... however, since then modifications have been made to flooring, tile and trim work. Additionally, cabinetry has been re-glazed and the island faux painted.

  23. Hi Karena, when I get back there, I will get a detail photo of the buttons... which were a little different and I liked the effect.

  24. Thank you Annie,

I think that all interiors benefit from antique and aged pieces. If it is a contemporary interior, then adding antique oriental pieces always works.
